Sally Gallagher Murphy, 89, of Governors Island, NY, passed away on January 25, 2024, in Venice, Florida. Born on March 28, 1934, Sally was a fun-loving, creative, kind, generous, and smart individual. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Sally had a passion for physical education and health, which led her to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education and Health from SUNY at Cortland. She went on to have a successful career as a Physical Education Teacher, inspiring and guiding countless students throughout her years of service.

Outside of her professional life, Sally had a diverse range of hobbies. She dedicated ten years of her life as a Girl Scout Leader, instilling important values and life skills in young girls. Additionally, she actively participated in the PTA for ten years, contributing to the betterment of her community. Sally also coached girls' soccer, softball, and volleyball, nurturing young athletes and fostering their love for sports. She was an avid golfer, finding joy and relaxation on the golf course.

Sally will be lovingly remembered by her children, Suzanne (Tom) Frieberg of Vancouver, WA, Thomas (Laurie) Murphy of Rocky Mount, NC, and Eileen (Bob) Unzicker of Sanford, NC. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Joseph (Brooke) Frieberg, Emma Frieberg, Patrick Murphy, Ryan Murphy, Kelsey (Kevin) Nash, and Caroline Unzicker. Her great-grandchildren, Daphne, Elsie, Emmett, and Molly Frieberg, brought immense happiness to her life.

Sally was preceded in death by her mother, Mildred Gallagher, her father, William Gallagher, her sister, Patricia Casselman, and her former husband, Thomas Murphy.

A private family memorial service will be held in Western New York at a later date to honor and celebrate Sally's life.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Cortland College Foundation. Donations can be sent to PO Box 2000, Cortland, NY 13045. Please make the gift in memory of Sally Murphy for the Physical Education Department. Sally was also a passionate supporter of the Girl Scouts of the USA, and contributions can be made to the organization as well.

Sally Murphy will be deeply missed by her family, friends, nieces, nephews, and all those whose lives she touched. Her legacy of kindness, generosity, and dedication will continue to inspire others for years to come.
