Samantha J. "Sammie" Link

Samantha J. "Sammie" Link, age 21, of Peosta, Iowa, was called home tragically at 2:32 a.m., on Friday, March 31, 2017. To honor Sammie's life, funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Wednesday, April 5, 2017, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, with Deacon John Stierman officiating. To celebrate Sammie's life, family and friends may visit from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., on Tuesday, April 4, 2017, at Behr Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Sammie was born on August 15, 1995, in Dubuque, Iowa, daughter of Neal (Kim) Link and Jacquelyne Nelson. Sammie was a proud graduate of West Dubuque High School and would earn a reputation as not only a great soccer player, but also a kind and gentle soul who graciously possessed a natural love and respect for those with special needs. Sammie was a truly motivated soccer player and would gradually develop her skills in AYSO, before eventually sharing her talents on many open fields with her favorite club traveling teams, most especially the Dubuque Sting and the Dubuque Soccer Club. Sammie would go on to receive her CNA and immediately begin serving others as a career after highschool. She worked primarily with TLC and enjoyed assisted families with in home nursing care, as well as making friends along the way. She definitely had a soft spot for animals, and anyone who knew Sammie well will surely remember fondly her devotion to Winnie, Bear, Stewie and Duke. Sadly, Sammie's earthly journey has been much to short for those whom love and adore her. 21 years will never feel like it was enough time for her light to shine, but we know that she's definitely left a positive impact on the world around her and that one day we'll all be reunited with our caring, generous and beautiful Sammie. Those left to cherish Sammie's memory include her father, Neal (Kim) Link, Peosta, IA; her mother, Jacquelyne Nelson; a sister, Cassaundra (Josh Driscoll) Nelson; her brothers, Jason, Joshua, Michael, Matthew and Donald; her grandmothers, Karen Johnson, Dubuque, IA, and Beverly Miller, Dubuque, IA; her grandfathers, Jim (Linda) Link, Dubuque, IA and Steve Simon, Dubuque, IA; her aunts and uncles, Tim Simon, Kelly (fiancé Larry Mathis) Simon, Jim Simon, Robert (Melissa) Powell, a nephew, Kai Driscoll; and her cousins, Ashley, Olivia, Indie, River, Hailey and Lexi. Sammie was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Robert Johnson Jr., and Ivan Miller; her grandmother, Deb Simon; and her uncle, Jeffrey Link. In lieu of flowers, a Samantha J. "Sammie" Link memorial fund has been established.
