Samantha Shoobs Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 11, 2024.
Dr. Samantha Elena Shoobs, 34, passed away peacefully on May 31st, 2024, after a long hard-fought battle with metastatic breast cancer.

Samantha was born on July 6, 1989, in New York City. She graduated Union College in 2011 and pursued her PhD in Child Psychology from Fairleigh Dickinson where she graduated in May of 2022.

Samantha was a child psychologist at The Robert F. Kennedy School P169M on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. She was highly devoted to all the students that came through her office. As an advocate for metastatic breast cancer, she was also an esteemed and dedicated board member of The Pink Agenda whose longtime beneficiary is the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Samantha's inner and outer beauty will never be forgotten. She was generous, lighthearted, and compassionate, with a sense of humor that kept everyone around her laughing. She loved her family and friends who are determined to keep her caring spirit as an incredible mother, wife, daughter, and sister alive. She also loved traveling, having made it to 6 continents (including Antarctica) and taking her family on vacations from Montana to Dubai. But for those of you who know Samantha best, know she was most content in front of the television with some ice cream devouring one of her favorite shows. Her loss leaves an immense hole in all who were lucky to love her, but her spirit will always be with us.

Samantha is survived by her two beautiful boys, Benjamin and Zachary, husband Robert, sister Katherine, parents Jean and Jerome and so many other family and friends who absolutely adored her.

We will honor Samantha's wishes of a celebration of her extraordinary life in the coming months. Details will be shared with family and friends. Samantha was a passionate advocate for metastatic breast cancer so in lieu of flowers please make a donation in her memory to The Pink Agenda.

I am here after listening to her message on tiktok. What a beautiful soul. I am 36 and also fighting breast cancer, I could not help but cry listening to how she perfectly described the feelings of someone dealing with cancer. My condolences to her family on a devastating loss.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer at 39 when I found a lump one month after weaning my 8-month-old daughter. Thankfully we caught my cancer before it was stage 4, but I spent the next year of treatment convinced that my cancer was or would soon be metastatic.

Listening to Samantha´s heartbreaking voicemail for Anderson, it was like someone was reading an inner monologue of my thoughts during that time when I was sure I was going to die from breast cancer. I´ve never heard someone articulate my feelings so perfectly. What a gift she has left humanity, in helping us all empathize and better understand the many layers of grief that exist for the terminally ill. Thank you, Samantha. Rest in peace.

I also came here after watching the CNN video. Her words hit home. She explained her grief so well. We won´t stop talking about it. Glad she can live on through her two young boys. The world needs it.

As a fellow boy mama with metastatic breast cancer, Samantha´s story hit close to my heart. I was diagnosed while on maternity leave when a lump I found breastfeeding went wildly misdiagnosed. Samantha´s expression of grief really resonated. I just wanted to send love to her family. Know that she is still touching lives.

I just came across the post on CNN's Instagram from Anderson Cooper and his voicemail box. To say I am gutted after listening to it is an understatement. I am a complete stranger, almost 36 years old with 2 young kids of my own - listening to Samantha's voice, talking through the tears, brought me to tears. The strength that I am sure she showed throughout her entire battle was likely immense and so beautiful, she truly seemed like such an amazing wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend and just person, in general. I am so incredibly sorry for such an incredible loss in your lives. The life she dreamt of living with her beautiful family will be lived out by all who loved her. Sending so much love and peace.

Such a tragedy she was a beautiful girl I mostly saw her at family holidays and she always had a smile on her beautiful face. I´m glad family and friends will keep her memory alive for her children and her beautiful strong heart will be remembered forever

We did not have the pleasure of knowing Samantha personally, but knew of her courageous and heartbreaking struggle through a family friend of hers.

Our sincere condolences to the family.
