Samuel Kenneth "Sam" Lester Mr. Samuel Kenneth "Sam" Lester, age 65, of Wardell, VA, passed away at his home Wed., Sept. 2, 2009. He was born in Richlands, VA, and was the son of the late Sam Ward and Oakley Dye Lester. He had made his home in the Wardell area all of his life and was a retired employee of Bristol Compressor. He was a former employee of both Pounding Mill Quarry and Koch Raven. He attended the Chapel of Love Church on Kents Ridge Road and was a member of the Tazewell County Moose Lodge #198 and the Tazewell County Sportsman Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Ruth Burnette Lester, and one special brother-in-law, Ralph Eugene Russell. Survivors are: one son: Kenneth Samuel Lester and wife, Sandra, of Lynchburg, VA; one step daughter: Debra Kay Harold and husband, Kenneth, of Bluefield, WV; two step sons: James Hersel Smith and wife, Michelle, of Corpus Cove, TX, William Keith Smith and wife, Yvonne, of Manassas, VA; one sister: Wanda Russell of Wardell, VA; grandchildren: Megan Lester, Ryan Lester, Tara Null and husband, Larry, Adam Clark, Timothy Gonyer, Brandon Gonyer, Amanda Smith, James Smith, and Bethany Butcher and husband, Andrew; one great grandson: Joshua Null. Funeral services for Samuel Kenneth Lester were conducted Sat., Sept. 5, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, VA, with the Rev. Roger Lester officiating. Interment followed at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, VA. Pallbearers were: David Harris, Junior Lester, Steve Lester, Adam Clark, David Lester, Rodney Brown, Teddy Rasnake, and Virgil Musick. Honorary pallbearers were: Men of Chapel of Love Church, G.I. Brown, Bill Vencill, Larry Dye, and Branson Whited. Friends called after 6:00 p.m. Fri. evening at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, VA.
