You were such a kind-hearted friend, Sammy. You helped me when no one else would, and I was glad to spend time with you the past few months. I know you are in Heaven with God and made perfect now. I loved you so much as a dear friend and will always miss you and remember you. (Christina, Burlington, NC)

I keep hearing Sammy picking and singing "Don't Think Twice It's Alright" (Dylan). When he got that new Ovation guitar, he would sing that to you everytime you saw him. He loved his family and was so proud of all of them. But, when Ginny came along, he was head over heals in love forever ! Now, he is happy and with Ginny again where all troubles are over.

This is such sad news. I grew up with Sammy in Greensboro -- Sternberger, Kiser and Grimsley. We even rode the same bus since he lived a couple of streets over from me. We were able to reconnect last year when he came to Charlotte to see me. He was as charming and engaging as ever! Sammy, you will be missed by all who knew you.

Sammy visited with me last year when Ken was spending his final days at Baptist; and was just as charming and genuine as he'd been back in the 70's across the street from Ken's home - basketball pounding at all hours; the Sparrow boys laughing and teasing! Poor Martha and mom, with all that testosterone! Anyway, Sam went out of his way to visit with his dying childhood friend, and it meant a great deal to me to witness that sacrifice.

So many memories, I knew Sammy from our Sternberger days, Martha and I were
classmates.Don,Sammy, Jerry ,Robbie and
myself at Starmount or dances.Rushing to go off campus for lunch at Grimsley.
I had not seen Sammy for years and ran
into him at Jerrys'.He still had his good humor and we joked about him slimer and I was fatter. I will miss him.
