Sandra Hoffstot Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 14, 2024.
Sandra (Sandy) Margaret Hoffstot 84 of Round Hill, Virginia passed away on Sunday November 10, 2024.

She was Born on April 16, 1940, in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. She is survived by her Sister Betty Sleigh, her 4 children, Jason Hoffstot, Robin Carey (Brett), Holly Hoffstot, Neil Hoffstot (Angela), 9 grandchildren, Dustin Carey, Curtis Hoffstot (Kristin), Tricia Hoffstot, Thomasine Wolfgram, Demi Alas (Geo), Wayne Wolfgram, Thomas Hoffstot, Ella Hoffstot, Cooper Hoffstot, 4 great grandchildren, Selena Alas, Quinnzel Alas, Jayden Hoffstot and Parker Hoffstot.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Adrienne Logan, brothers James Sleigh, and Neil Sleigh.

Sandy was raised in an orphanage in Cabot Pennsylvania with her brothers and sisters. The youngest of the family, she always spoke well of the orphanage and her time there. She would tell you proudly that she was raised by her sister Adrienne who taught her to be a happy child, a devoted sister, a considerate young lady, and a loving and caring mother.

Although she dedicated her life to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, she always held a steady job. She started out with her own dog grooming business in the 1960's. In the 1970's she broke barriers in the construction industry as one of the first female union glazers in the Washinton D.C. area. In the 1980's she migrated to transportation and happily retired as a school bus driver from Fairfax County Public Schools.

Her hobbies included food, both cooking and eating, as well as anything to do with animals. She was always watching cooking shows, trying new recipes, and her potato salad was legendary in Northern Virginia. Friends and families were always treated to some amazing meals and cook outs when she was around. If you were ever at her house, you would always find a dog or two, in addition to some of the stray cats in the neighborhood she liked to feed. She was an animal lover and surrounded herself with pets, especially dogs throughout her life.

Sandy was a huge sports fan and of course a lover of all the Pittsburgh teams, with the Steelers being her favorite. She led the charge for women's rights and spearheaded girls' athletics in Springfield Virginia in the 1970's. In addition to creating the leagues she also helped by coaching and running the booster clubs. She was very active in her community along with politics and did her best to help others succeed no matter the situation.

As a mother of four she did all she could for her children. Her children would agree that she would go to the end of the earth and back to give them whatever they needed. She provided the true definition of unconditional love!

Sandy will always be remembered for being a loving and caring person who always spoke her mind.

Family will hold a private service. In lieu of flowers she asked that you send a donation to the Foundation of Foster Children.

She was always kind to me. And some great conversations. She will always be remembered by dealing with with the shenanigans that we pulled much love to her.
