Sarah Tart Johnson., 86, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family and loved ones. Thursday, March 16, 2017 Sarah was born December 25, 1930 in Dunn, N.C. to the late John Mangum Tart and Amelia Lee Tart. Sarah was an operating room nurse for many years, working at Wake Medical Center and Dorthea Dix Hospital in Raleigh, N.C., as well as Betsy Johnson Hospital in Dunn, N.C.
In 1950, Sarah married Robert L. Johnson, formally of Dunn, N.C. Robert was her beloved husband and revered father to five daughters until his death in 1996.
During her lifetime, Sarah Johnson was a devout Catholic and she often served as a soloist for mass. She partnered with her husband in establishing and maintaining a working farm for many years. Sarah enjoyed the beauty of nature and she cherished her children and grandchildren.
Sarah Johnson is survived by her five daughters: Anna Polovick or Belhaven, N.C., Julie Stewart of Wilson’s Mills, N.C., Barbara Clayton and Laura Parrish of Clayton, N.C. and Christi West of Williamsburg, V.A. Sarah has ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
There will be a wake for Mrs. Johnson Sunday evening, March 19 at McLaurin Funeral Home in Clayton, N.C. at 6:00 PM. A mass to celebrate her life will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, March 20, 2017 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, 4057 U.S.70 Highway Business, Clayton, N.C.
Mrs. Johnson will be buried in the Johnson-Lee Cemetery in Meadow, N.C. aside her husband of many years.
Sarah Johnson received excellent care at Johnston Medical Center in Clayton North Carolina, and Hospice Services of Johnson County. The family would like to formally thank the doctors and staff of both facilities.
