Scott Hammond Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 15, 2024.
Scott Wilson Hammond age 59 passed away unexpectedly October 2, 2024 in Roebuck, SC. He was born May 6, 1965 in Chapel Hill, NC to Edy Hammond Bulthuis (Tom) and the late Tommy Hammond. Scott is also survived by a brother Eric Hammond (Pam) and a nephew Nicolas Hammond of Surfside Beach, SC. Scott graduated from Spartanburg High School class of 1983 and attended USC- Spartanburg. Scott's first job was with his family's business Hammond Brown Jennings Furniture Store. Scott also worked for Domino's Pizza when they first came to the area and then went on to work for Pet Dairy driving a forklift in the Ice Cream Department. After that Scott began his lifelong career in the flooring industry. When focused, Scott's talent and workmanship in the ceramic tile field were unmatched. But it was difficult for Scott to stay focused as he loved life and all things in it.

He loved to go to concerts and sporting events. He often talked about his trips to Hawaii and Kiawah Island as a kid and going to wrestling matches with his grandfather, "Papa Hammond." Scott always pulled for Ric Flair. He also loved his pets, from his cat Cutter to his beloved Irish Setter Wadsworth. Scott had a huge heart and never met a stranger. He would always give a helping hand to anyone in need and had an infectious smile and a quick wit. He spent time in New Orleans helping with Katrina relief and helping take care of his late friend Kevin's mother up until his passing.

Scott was an avid fisherman who loved to camp and spend time outdoors. He also loved to grow a garden every year with tomatoes and okra. He followed sports with a passion and his all time favorite team was UNC Tarheel basketball. He went to many Nascar races and was a huge fan of Jeff Gordon. In the fall every year football would grab his attention. He watched many games in Chapel Hill and Knoxville but his heart was in Charlotte for the Carolina Panthers. He would go every year to preseason practice at Wofford and to many games during the season and was in Houston when they made it to the Super Bowl for the first time. Scott also loved Fantasy Football and won several league championships under the monikers Tarheel Terror and Chapel Hill Thrillmovnup. Scott would always point out that he scored the most points ever in a single week in Fantasy Football history.

Scott touched many lives over the years and he will be deeply missed by his friends and family. Let us raise a glass and toast a life well lived.

Donations may be made in Scott's name to Spartanburg County Humane Society 150 Dexter Road Spartanburg, SC 29303.

Scott was my sweet cousin , who never hesitated to help me. I went thru two home moves and he was a motivating force in my ear to keep plugging away and moving boxes ! I had to smile when I got sweet phone calls just to say `I love you´ and will miss those as life progresses! . My Tar Heel loving , Rick Flair whooping friend! Rest well Scott !
