Scott Knapp Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 6, 2025.
-Scott Knapp, 57, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2025, in Madison, Wisconsin, with his fiancée, Carol Shopshear, by his side.

Born on August 31, 1967, in Chicago, Illinois. His family shortly later moved to Michigan. They eventually rooted in South Haven, where he grew up. He graduated from South Haven High School in 1986 before pursuing higher education at Northern Michigan University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 2003. His passion for knowledge led him to Wayne State University, where he obtained a Master of Library and Information Science degree in 2006.

Scott proudly served his country as a Senior Airman in the United States Air Force from 1989 to 1992. His dedication to service extended beyond the military; he received an employee of month award from Department of Veterans Affairs where he was employed as a Telephone Operator/Triage Clerk at Willams S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital from 2009-2018.

Scott was a proud Tribal Elder of the Little Traverse Bay Band of Odawa Indians and carried his heritage with great pride throughout his life.

A true lover of nature, Scott found joy in the beauty of the outdoors and had a particular fascination with the Northern Lights. He also had a deep love for music, especially from the 1980s. Sports were another passion of his-he enjoyed watching Michigan basketball and football, UFC fighting, and the Olympics, particularly track and field events.

Scott is survived by his brother, David Anthony (Pam McGranahan); his sister, Kay Bohn (Jennifer Moulds); nephews Reese Bohn (Emily) and Daniel Hernandez-Moulds; niece Sierra Ramos (Joseph) and great-nephew Joey; and his beloved fiancée, Carol Shopshear. He will also be remembered by many uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends who cherished him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wendell and Eileen Knapp.

A Celebration of Life will be held on March 8, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the American Legion Post located at 129 Michigan Ave., South Haven, Michigan 49090.

Scott's memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. May his love for nature and passion for life continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to share in his journey.

I remember the first conversation you ever had with me. We had a class together in 10th grade. The first time you ever spoke to me you said "so do you have a boyfriend"? I didn't know what to think of that. Glad that you pursued me & our time together. All My Love.
