Scott Thompson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 12, 2024.
Scott Gregory Thompson, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, left us on January 4th after a brief illness. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Cheryl Thompson, his daughter Christie Giannetto and her husband David, his son Justin Thompson and his wife Julie, and his adoring grandchildren Cole, Grace, Claire, and Grant, Scott will be remembered for his unwavering love and support for his family. He is also survived by his brothers Craig, Mike, Doug, and Rick, and his sisters Jan, Linda, and Karen, as well as his brother-in-law Connelly Bowling and his wife Sue, and many nieces and nephews.

An avid supporter of Michigan State University, Scott was passionate about all things Green and White, but especially MSU football. He graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering from MSU and went on to earn a Master's in Business Administration and Finance, which he utilized throughout his successful career managing municipal projects for communities across Northern Michigan. A dedicated member of The American Society of Civil Engineers, Scott's professional contributions were as significant as his personal ones.

Scott found great joy in coaching and supporting kids' sports. Scott dedicated many seasons to coaching CASA sports for his children, Christie and Justin, and delighted in attending the sports and activities of his four grandchildren. In retirement, he loved spending summers boating in Northern Michigan and winters in sunny Arizona with his wife Cheryl. He cherished golfing and singing karaoke with friends in their Arizona Traditions community.

In honor of Scott's life, there will be two Celebrations of Life. The first will take place at Arizona Traditions Neighborhood Center on March 30th at 4:00 p.m., and the second will be held at Lakeside Charlie's in Cadillac, MI on June 22nd at 3:30 p.m. All who knew and loved Scott are invited to attend either event. Donations may be made to St. Jude's in Scott's memory at http://tinyurl.com/sgt1949.

Scott's memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched, and his kindness, warmth, and big smile will be dearly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
