Shirlan Turner Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 29, 2025.
It is with sadness the family announces the death of Shirlan Turner. Shirlan Elaine Woodard Turner, age 78 of Granbury, Texas, passed away on July 28, 2025 in Granbury, Texas. She died after a brief medical complication unrelated to her recent battle with cancer.

Shirlan Turner was born in Big Spring, Texas on November 8, 1946 to Jessie Clyde (Red) Woodard and Anna Imogene Brown Woodard. She graduated in 1965 from Big Spring High School. She studied at Howard County Junior College and then San Angelo State University.

She married Shores Franklin (Sam) Turner, Jr, of Rochester, Texas, on January 25, 1968 in Big Spring. They lived in Killeen, Texas after Sam was drafted into the army and deployed to Vietnam.

Shirlan worked in several fields using her administrative skills. She was a realtor at Murphy and Rochester in Odessa, Texas. She kept the business's books when her family was part owner at Basin Electric in Monahans. She worked in the finance office for many years in the City of Monahans. Finally, all those skills culminated as Sam and Shirlan were owner operators of Vinyl Techniques for 15 years until their retirements.

Beyond her professional life, Shirlan was a Christian in the Baptist Church. She was in First Baptist in Big Spring, First Baptist in Odessa, Southside Baptist and then First Baptist in Monahans. Then in their retirements, a part of Acton Baptist in Granbury.

Shirlan enjoyed the fun and humor of friends. Her sisters would tell you, she was always up to something. She was never happier than when she was with her friends and family; she treasured those moments

Shirlan is survived by her husband, Sam, her sons Trey (Lea Ann) and Craig, (Mimi). By her sisters Linda Kay (Warren) Kelley and Jo Ann Winborn. Raised as grandchildren Quenton Winborn, Lauren Winborn Madison. Grandchildren, Timothy, Katelynn, Ashlea, Bailey, Garrison, Jacob. Also, by 3 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, Jessie Clyde, mother Anna Imogene, her brother Wiley Woodard (Sherry), and nephew Robert Woodard

Shirlan (and Sam) have been friends of ours for a number of years, and enjoyed many good times together through that friendship, many of which included various activites in First Baptist, Monahans. Shirlan and Rena were FB buddies and often visited on the phone. Throughout her struggle with cancer, she always remained upbeat and encouraging to everyone she met. She will always remain a special place in our hearts!

Shirlan was a beautiful gift from God to those that met her. She always wore her beautiful smile. She had an encouraging word and a quick wit each time we were together. Thank you Jesus that we will meet again. Janice Bruton

What a sweet joy to know, if only for a while, Shirlan. One of my last conversations with her, she was encouraging me in my walk with cancer ~ even though she was suffering her own challenges and disappointments. She demonstrated Jesus love to me and now she is perfectly healed in the arms of Jesus

Shirlan was a joy to know. In the few years they were part of my Sunday school class at Acton Baptist she blessed me with her warmth, genuineness and humor. Her smile and sweetness will be in my memories, and I have no doubt that she is safe in the arms of Jesus, her Savior.
