This wonderful lady saved my life over 20 years ago. Many people regard footballers and movie stars as heroes but they are nothing compared to this brilliant compassionate lady. I was sent to her as an emergency by the Army and she waited for me after hours. She even took blood from me as she didn't want to waste time sending me for a blood test. She looked after me so brilliantly. Thanks to her I have lived another 20 years and had the joy of my son being born. I wish I had known about her passing and the funeral as I would have been there to pay my respects. I will definitely visit her grave to say my goodbye in person.
After my surgery and treatment she asked if I would help her by giving a talk to a group of doctors she was training as my Myxoid Lipo Sarcoma was apparently rare.....of course I said yes and I also refused the travel costs she tried to reimburse me with because anyone who has ever been in her care would have done anything for her.
Thank you Miss Murray from the bottom of my heart.

Only just heard of the news of Shona’s (or Miss Murray, as she always will be to me) passing recently. I’m another one of her sarcoma patients. She performed my amputation 20 years ago saving my life. She was always friendly with me during my appointments. She would ask if I’m still reading Harry Potter because I was obsessed with the books when I first came into her care. I still remember her smile vividly. Always so relaxed, it’s only in hindsight I see how extraordinary that was given her job. She left an enormously positive mark on the world, I would very much liked to have seen her again to give her a warm hug and the proper thanks she deserves. Rest in Peace Miss Murray

Miss Murray worked with such grace and professionalism, she saved my leg and looked after me for many years to follow. I am saddened to hear of her passing, I had often thought of her in her retirement. How cruel she has passed when she saved so many. Rest in peace

I too owe my life to this wonderful woman. Her skill as a surgeon was equalled in the way she gave so much to her patients , their families and her colleagues with her kindness and sense of humour. I only heard this very sad news today . I had often thought of her enjoying her return to Scotland with some time for herself...all too short. Sending my good wishes to her family for their loss of someone who was a heroine to so many.

Shona was a lovely thoughtful woman and surgical trainer. Her patients really loved her. I really enjoyed getting to know her as a registrar and am so sad to hear of her loss. It is such a shame that her retirement was so short as I recall the excitement with which she relished returning to her homeland from Newcastle. She will be missed.

Shona and I shared a special friendship over 40 years - she was also instrumental in steering me to the correct Consultant Surgeon on more than one occasion. I will keep her memory alive forever. My heartfelt thoughts are with her Mother, Brother, and Sister in Law.

I am so sorry for your loss... Shona took great care of me, 20 years ago at Freemans Hospital, at a very difficult time.
