He was united in marriage to Lucille Reiter of Ocheyedan, Iowa on March 20, 1959 in Sibley, Iowa. To this union five children were born. Simon was a life long farmer, farming some of the land his grandparents settled on in 1883. In his early years of farming, he enjoyed trucking and shelling corn with close neighbors and friends. His favorite job was running grain cart during harvest. He was a life long member of Lyon County First Presbyterian Church in George, Iowa. Both sets of his grandparents were charter members of this church. Simon served as an usher, trustee, elder, clerk of session, and cemetery board member for many years. He was proud that his great grandchildren are the sixth generation now attending this church. Simon's love of farming came in second only to his love of his family and God. Enjoying often, having his entire family together for meals, for birthdays, anniversaries, and many holiday celebrations throughout the year.
