Stanley Craig Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jul. 14 to Jul. 15, 2006.
CRAIG, Stanley Gordon In the comfort of his home, surrounded by family and holding the hand of his wife, confidant and best friend Mary Lou (nee Stroud/Meloche), Stan completed his journey here on earth. Stan took great pride in his son David, daughter-in-law Donna Piccinin-Craig, and grandsons Adam and Alex. Michelle Farrell and Anne Marie (husband Michael Kisch) were honoured to have him as their step-father. Poppa's really big high fives will be missed by Mikaylla, Marissa, Michael, Emma, Holden and Aubri. He is also survived by his little big sister Ruth Guthrie of Guelph, and sisters-in-law Elizabeth Stroud of Australia and Patricia and husband Mick Haston of BC. Stan was pre-deceased by wife Charlotte (nee Lisowski) and sister Barb and brother-in-law Ross Graham. Many nieces and nephews will feel his passing. As an idealistic 17-year old, he enlisted in the RCAF and bravely protected our country during WWII. This was followed by a 40-year career with Canadian Pacific Railway where he progressed from Office Clerk to General Agent. He was Past President of the Windsor Transportation Club as well as of the CP Rail Pensioners' Club. In retirement, he discovered golf and took great joy in convening the annual CP Pensioners and Friends tournament. He developed a keen sense of adventure late in life ... jet boating in New Zealand, camel riding in an African desert and fjording in Norway were but a few. Daytona Beach will also miss his annual holidays. Of the many family trips that Donna organized, the pilgrimage to Flanders Field to pay tribute to his hometown hero, Col. John McCrae was his most memorable. Stan was a man of integrity whose word was his bond. The memory of his strength and courage will remain in our hearts forever. The world is a better place for having had him with us for 81 years. Stan's passing was gentle thanks to the compassionate care given by the Hospice Team of Dr. Edward Swift and nurse Heather, who kept their promise of keeping him comfortable. His days were made easier by the CCAC team, especially nurse Carole and PCW Sean. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Hospice of Windsor would be appreciated by the family. Visitation will be held on Friday from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. A veteran's service will take place Friday at 7 p.m. under the auspices of the Windsor Veterans' Memorial Service Committee. Stan's life will also be celebrated on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Families First Funeral Home & Tribute Centre (969-5841) 3260 Dougall Ave. Interment to follow at Windsor Memorial Gardens. Dave,

I'm very sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. I have very fond memories of meeting both your Dad and Mom when we passed through Windsor on our way to California some 25 years ago. His warmth and hospitality I won't forget. He must have been a wonderful role model, as you were "Dad" to us all, and are a wonderful father to your own sons.

My deepest sympathies to you and your family,

Mick & Pat Haston

Dear David, We were very sorry to hear of your father's illness and then of his death. We will fondly remember the mean and never ending games of "gow-wah" with your Mom & Dad and Tata and Nana in the Gobles Grove cottage. Stan was always quick to give his sisters-in-law a compliment - "Hi Lucious!" You were probably too young, but for us and hopefully for you these happy memories will help at this time of sadness. Hope to see you and Donna and the boys soon. All our love, Aunt Pat & Uncle Mick, Holly, Andrew, Tina & Rachel.

My friend Stan Craig made everyone that he knew, feel like they meant something, and it was an unusual talent.

We will all miss him. Feel glad that you had a few good years with him, Mary Lou, and be glad that you could do so much for him before he was taken away.

Sincerely,

John and Ida Bernard

Mary-lou, I was surprised and saddened when dad called last night to let us know about your loss. I am very sure that there are many fond memories over the years. I am certain that Stan's love for you will continue forever. The greatest gift Stan will leave you is all the memories. Pat and Debbie

Dave:

I'm so sorry to hear about your father's passing. It sounds like he's had a wonderful retirement and was able to truly enjoy the world.

I have a fond memory of meeting your parents when we stopped through Windsor en route to California that one summer!

When things settle down for you, let's catch up!

Regards,

Al
