Stephen Patrick Mooney, age 47, passed away on June 19, 2024. Born on August 11, 1976, in Joliet, Illinois, he was known for his sharp intellect and warm sense of humor. Steve grew up immersed in a loving family and community.

Stephen pursued his passion for technology and analytics, earning a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Concordia University Chicago, followed by further studies at Liberty University and then Crown College for a Master of Ministry. He carved out a successful career as a Data Engineer and Scientist and was a proud business owner of Hope Analytics. His contributions to the field were marked by his co-authorship of "Streaming Data Mesh: A Model for Optimizing Real Time Data Services."

Beyond his professional life, Stephen was an avid hobbyist. He enjoyed building computers, collecting Air Jordans, and indulging in political comedy. A self-proclaimed coffee lover, he cherished his cats and seized every opportunity for international travel. His role as a big brother was characterized by wisdom and support.

Stephen leaves behind his wife, Marianne Mooney of Oswego, IL; his grandmother, Pauline Sprowls of Farmington, IL; siblings Mark (Leslie) Mooney of Marion, IA; Matt Mooney of Portage, WI; and Terri McDonald of Mason, OH; and nephews Cope Dobbels and John Mooney. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen A. Mooney and Paula Mooney, and his brother, Mike Mooney.

A service to celebrate Stephen's life will be held at The Compass Church, located at 1551 E Hobson Road, Naperville, IL, on July 19, 2024, at 11 am, with a luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The Compass Church, honoring Stephen's memory.

Stephen's legacy of love, laughter, and intellectual curiosity will forever be cherished by those who knew him. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

During our time working together, there was a certain application we both liked to make fun of. We joked that it was the car in Johnny Cash's song "One Piece at a Time." The song tells the story of a poor auto worker who, over the years, took Cadillac parts home and then built a hodge-podge auto of his own. The result was a composite of many models. One day, he uttered this comparison to the GM because he couldn't hold it back anymore. I'll always remember that.
