Steven Michael Gatlin

Steven Michael Gatlin, 61, of OKC passed from this life on Jan 22, 2017. Services have been entrusted to the care of Advantage Funeral Service. A service celebrating his life will be held on Friday, Jan 27th at 2pm at the Advantage Funeral Service Chapel at 7720 S. Penn in OKC.

Steve was born on Nov 12, 1955 in Pawnee, OK to Irene and Billy Gatlin. He attended school in Moore and Strother. He often spent the summers with his beloved grandparents in Fairfax, OK. Following high school, he enlisted in the US Army and was stationed in Germany. When he returned stateside he traveled the USA and experienced all life had to offer. Steve and Lynn Gatlin had a son, Beau Gatlin, and it was at this time that Steve found a career he was passionate about, commercial construction. He spent the next few decades working as a drywall installer and painter in the OKC metro area.

In the early 2000's, Steve retired due to his illness. When he wasn't working, Steve enjoyed watching old western movies, riding his motorcycle, and fishing with his good friend Steve Apple. He loved getting together with his buddies to jam to rhythm & blues music. He was quite talented at playing his harmonica. Steve was a generous guy who would do anything to help his friends and family and he could fix just about anything anyone could break. He was a man of few words who possessed a silent strength.

Those who knew Steve best knew his top priority was his family. He rarely missed an opportunity to give his sisters a hard time, and he was a loving and protective son. He cared deeply for his mother and her loyal dog Petey. Steve was also extremely proud of his son Beau, and enjoyed telling others of Beau's many wonderful accomplishments. Steve made a wonderful mark on so many lives, and he will live on in the memories of those who loved him.

He was preceded in death by his grandpa and grandma Jenkins, his father and step-sister Kaline Myers. He is survived by his mother Faye Wozniak; his son Dr. Beau Gatlin and wife Stacey; a daughter; three siblings: Jack Wozniak, Angela Wozniak-Fox, and Christy Brock and husband Jamie; three grandkids: Harper, Lucy, and Felicity Gatlin; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.

As an expression of the immense love Steve had for his granddaughters, his family has asked that friends and family please consider contributions to a college education fund for Harper, Lucy and Felicity in memory of their Grandfather Steve, which will be his special gift to them.
