Steven Huesing

HUESING, Steven A. September 8, 1944 - April 12, 2009 It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Steven A. Huesing, recently of Enderby BC, on Sunday April 12, 2009, at the age of 64. Born on September 8, 1944 in Bensheim, Germany, Steve immigrated to Canada in 1952 with his parents. He made Edmonton his home for most of his life, but also lived in Barrhead, AB, Inuvik and Yellowknife, NWT, and Surrey, BC. He will forever be remembered and missed for his significant contributions to the field of Heath Informatics in Canada and internationally. He is survived by his loving companion and partner Shirley Leonard; children, Elaine (Eric), Christina, Michael and Catherine (their mother); grandchildren Tessa, Caelan, Maya, and Liam; his brothers and sisters Thierry, Barbara, Eva and Kent; other family members including nieces, nephews, a great-niece, cousins, numerous life-long friends and business associates from around the world. Steven is predeceased by his mother Jutte Huesing (nee Komes), step-father Adolf Huesing, father Andres Houzelot, brother Didier Houzelot and son Jim. Steven lived with Polycystic Kidney disease, overcoming many health issues throughout his lifetime and was a successful recipient of two kidney transplants. The family would like to thank Dr. Phil Halloran, Dr. Neil Bell and Dr. John Mackel and their staff members for their care and significant contribution to Steven's wellness overmany years, and to Dr. McCauley, Dr. Wilson and Dr. Fox for their care in his final days. A Memorial will be held at the Hotel MacDonald in Edmonton on Wednesday April 22, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in his name to either the COACH Steven A. Huesing Scholarship fund for students in the field of Health Informatics ( www.coachorg.com or telephone 416.494.9324 ) or to the University Hospital Foundation for Kidney Transplant Genomics Research (8440 112 Street, Edmonton, AB, T6G TB7). A private family service will take place in Ottesburg, Germany, where he will be laid to rest with his grandfather and other family members.
