SPRINGFIELD, IL - Stuart D. "Stu" Bentley, 72, of Springfield, died at 6:50 p.m. on Friday, April 21, 2017, at Memorial Medical Center.
Stu was born April 19, 1945, in Springfield, the son of the late Orville and Ursula (Ishmael) Bentley.
He was also preceded in death by his brother, Darryl Bentley.
Stu is survived by his wife of 52 years, Celine (Mizeur) Bentley; son, Brian Bentley; daughter, Melissa (Rob) Price, both of Springfield; brother, Robert (Linda) Bentley of Springfield; and his beloved grandson, Paul Price.
Stu graduated from Lanphier High School and Southern Illinois University-Carbondale with a degree in Accounting. He was a CPA and worked for the State of Illinois in that capacity for many years. He also worked for the State Board of Education until his retirement in 2003.
Stu loved all sports and especially loved playing softball with his Mizeur family brothers-in-law. He also enjoyed his family and spending time with his grandson, Paul.
Everyone knew of Stu's great passion for chili, any chili, as long as it turned crackers orange upon impact. Sundays were spent with a bowl of chili and the Chicago Bears.

He was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Agnes Church.

Mass of the Resurrection: 10 a.m., Friday, April 28, 2017, at St. Joseph Church with the Rev. Steve Janoski officiating.
Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

I haven't seen Stu since H.S., but what I remember most about Stu was his easy going personality. He always had a positive spin on life. I will always remember his contagious laugh!

Celine and family you have our deepest sympathy and prayers. We have great memories from working with Stu and always being able to have a laugh with him and constantly discussing Da Bears. I will never forget our trips to Chicago to see both a Cubs and then a White socks game on the same day. Again our thought and prayers are with you.

I lived next door to the Bentley family for many years. Stu and Bob were my pals. My memories are just too vast to list here. We played baseball constantly. Stu' s favorite player was Eddie Matthews, 3rd baseman for the old Milwaukee Braves. I worked with Stu at the State Board of Education, and we talked daily about business and personal matters. No better guy around than Stu.
I mourn him and will miss him. My sympathies and condolences to Celine, Bob, and family.
