Surendra Bahadur Sahgal was born on October 19, 1938 in Hyderabad, India. He was the eldest son of Shivender Bahadur Sahgal and Sumitra Bai Pershad. He emigrated from India to the United States in 1960 to complete his Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering at the University of Kansas. He retired in 2006 from the Defense Contract Management Agency after 32 years and was awarded an honorary plaque and flag commemorating his years of service.
Outside of his professional life, he lived in Corona, CA for over 38 years and was a devout Hindu and follower of Satya Sai Baba. Among his family members and friends, he was considered a pillar of the Hindu community and Inland Empire and was one of the founding members of the Laxmi Narayan Mandir in Riverside, CA.
