Susan M. Cargill

Cargill, Susan M. Died at home on Thursday, April 22, 2010 at the age of 63. A native of Jackson, Minnesota, she was preceded in death by her parents, Mildred and Jack Kelly, and her brother, Joe. In the 1980s Susan became a credit manager for the Commodity Marketing and Fertilizer divisions of Cargill, Incorporated. In 2000, she was elected a director of Cargill, serving on the Board for eight years. Susan was particularly interested in the animal protein business, was an advocate for employees and paid special attention to social issues. Susan loved growing, building and nurturing things in her private life as well as business career. She followed her keen interests in horses and art quilts and practiced her credentials as a master gardener volunteer. She served as a director of the Courage Center; Waycrosse, Inc.; and the Norwegian Fjord Horse Registry. While valuing her privacy, she was nonetheless curious about the world, and participated in many trips to visit Cargill facilities and to meet with the employees. She was always able to connect with whomever she met and could always find humor, even in tense situations. Susan put her boys and husband first and foremost and was always happy to talk about her love for them. She is survived by her husband, James R. Cargill II; sons Christian and Patrick (Meghann Reznicek) Harker; her siblings - Jim, Patricia, Sharon, John (Kathy), and Dick (Denise) - and many nieces and nephews.
