Susan Merkle Obituary
Shreveport, LA - Susan York Merkle, 64, passed away on Friday, January 22, 2016, after a brief illness. Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 25, at Osborn Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 26, at Osborn Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Dr. Greg Davis of Broadmoor Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Forest Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Merkle was a native and resident of Shreveport for 64 years. She was a member of Broadmoor United Methodist Church, Chi Omega Sorority, past president of the Board at Glen Retirement Center. She was also a member of the Junior League of Shreveport and past Board member of the ARC.
Mrs. Merkle was preceded in death by her parents, Sidney and Nena York. She is survived by her husband of 14 years, Paul Merkle; two sons, Dawson Parker, of Shreveport and Travis Parker and his wife, Kelly, of Baton Rouge; two granddaughters, Sydney Parker and Garet Parker, of Baton Rouge; sister, Rebecca York Lampert and husband, Jeff, of Shreveport; great-aunt, Doris Wedgeworth; cousins, Lang and Celeste Wedgeworth and Ann and Jerry Capstick; and many other relatives.
The family requests that memorials be made to Broadmoor United Methodist Church of Shreveport, The Glen, The ARC or a charity of your choice.

Paul and Rebecca, I am so sad to hear about Susan's passing. We were friends since the 7th grade. One of my favorite memories was the summer we were roomies at YMCA camp and we each secretly took a bottle of peroxide and dumped it on our hair. There were about 8 of us that left with orange hair. This idea was inspired by Ellen Campbell. Susan was such a lovely person devoted to her family. I am so glad that she had Paul to spend the last 14 years with. I pray for comfort for you. Dear sweet Rebecca, my heart goes out to you. I know how close you and Susan were. I also lift you up as this must be so devastating for you. To Travis and Dawson, I pray that you know how very much your mother loved you and your children. Her eyes would light up when she talked about you. The last time I was in Shreveport for a reunion, she showed me pictures of you and the grandchildren and was so proud of you. I pray that you will continue to make her proud of you as she will be looking down from heaven and watching over you.
