Sylvia Majkowski Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 26, 2024.
Sylvia was born in Detroit to Theodore and Anna; who along with her sister Theresa (Monaghan) preceded her in death. She was a member of St. Hyacinth Parish (Detroit) where she attended grade school, then moved on to St Stanislaus High School (Detroit). Among her many friends was a young man, Thaddeus (Ted) Majkowski, who also attended St Stanislaus and they fell deeply in love. With her husband she raised five children [James, John (Deborah), Mark (Kathleen), Anne (Bill Felosak) and Paul (Judy Benkeser)].

The family primarily lived in the University District of Detroit, attending Gesu Parish. Sylvia made time to help wherever she could in parish and community activities. She was active in the Detroit Women's League, Girl Scouts and many Gesu associations, among others. As the children grew she returned to work as an Emergency Services Operator, a clerk for the Detroit Police Department and finally retired from the position of Police Mail Courier.

She was sadly widowed after only 25 years with Ted.

From about 1998-2023 she was an active member of the St. John Bosco Parish in Redford (now St. John XXIII) as a member/treasurer of their Altar Society. Sylvia attended mass weekly and strongly believed in offering services to the Church.

Her oldest child (James) died in November, 2023. Besides her four remaining children, she leaves Grandchildren: Stephanie Majkowski (Tony), Emily Majkowski (Mitch House), Mark Christopher Majkowski, Scott Majkowski, Sarah (Billy) Sweeter, Laura (Scott) Wagner, Thaddeus Felosak, Elizabeth Felosak, Matt (D'Lisa) Majkowski, Katrina (Colin) Fraser, Josh (Katelyn) Majkowski, Adam Majkowski. Great grandchildren: Rowan and Violet Fraser, Connor and Liam Wagner, and Leo and Norah Sweeter. Sylvia had a special relationship with her sister's children Michael (Lisse) Monaghan [Enzo and Elena], Susan (Mickey) Scanlon [Megan, Ben, Caitlin and Adam], Dennis (Christina) Monaghan [Madison and Ryan]. Other surviving family members are her sister-in-law Carol (Frank) Majkowski), along with many other nieces, nephews and cousins.

Sylvia was smart, beautiful, creative, organized and principled in every aspect of her life. We are forever grateful for the 95 years she lived and it is only fitting that she has been reunited with her beloved Ted for the 70th anniversary of their marriage on April 24, 1954.

The family wishes to thank all of those who have already reached out and expressed their love, memories and condolences. Though she left no specific wishes about memorial intentions, she was exceedingly generous in her life and any donations made in her honor/memory, that strike you as important, would be a testimonial to her life touching yours.

A Joint Memorial Service for Sylvia and James is Planned for Saturday May 4, 2024 @ 10:00 AM at Gesu Church (Detroit, MI). Reception immediately following, in the Church gathering space.
