Tena Strong Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 10, 2025.
Tena Strong, of Blaine, Minnesota, and formerly of Auburn, Kansas, passed away peacefully at her home on February 4, 2025.

Born on November 13, 1958, in Jefferson City, Missouri, to Earl and Gladys (Bennett) Meyer, Tena's early years were marked by frequent moves before she found a place to call home in Topeka where she met her soulmate, Gary. Their love story began with a blind date arranged by her sister Linda and brother-in-law Gary. From that moment on, their connection was undeniable. They married on October 9, 1976, and built a life filled with love and laughter for 35 years until Gary's passing in January 2012.

She is survived by her children Angela (Larry) DeMarais and Corey (Joanna) Strong; her cherished niece Lynn (Tony) Dannibale; and grandchildren Jacob (Nicole), Lorelei, Alexah, Devon (Austin), Nick (Lacey), and Mora. She is also survived by her siblings Linda (Gary), Don (Barb), Janis (Lloyd Jr.), Bruce (Debbie), Cheryl (David), Michael, and Wade (Shane), as well as many nieces and nephews who brought joy to her life.

In passing, she is reunited with her beloved husband Gary-a reunion she longed for. She is also preceded in death by her parents Earl and Gladys.

Tena loved to travel-whether on "sisters" trips filled with love and laughter, cruising the seas with family by her side, or spontaneous adventures with her grandchildren. Winters in Key West held a special place in her heart; she loved sharing that experience with her brother, bringing others along to share the delight.

Tena loved playing games; cards, board, or yard games did not matter. She was a fierce competitor, always out for the win-her quick wit making every gathering more lively. But beyond the games was a woman whose presence brought comfort to those around her. She was the peacemaker, the listening ear, the unwavering support when strength was needed. Long phone conversations were second nature to Tena-she always made time for those she loved. Her kindness extended far beyond family; many of her children's and grandchildren's friends came to know her simply as Mom or Grandma-a testament to the boundless warmth she shared so freely.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Tena's honor on April 5, 2025, from 3-5pm at Auburn Community Center located at 121 W. 11th St, Auburn, KS 66402. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Donate Life America at https://give.classy.org/TenaStrong or by mailing a check to Donate Life America at 5516 Falmouth Street, Suite 302, Richmond, VA 23230.

Though Tena has left this world behind, the love, kindness and generosity she showed remains woven into the hearts of all who knew her. May memories of her bring comfort in sorrow and joy in remembrance.

Strong Family,
I started to say To the Strong Family and I realized that's exactly who you (all) are. STRONG FAMILY. I didn't really know Tena but I know how much Ellen(nor) thought of her and over the years through Ellen I'd hear stories filled with love, compassion, and sincerity. Hold every memory, celebrate holidays, cry tears and may your sorrows fade and you begin to smile when you hear her name. Tena.
God Bless
Sincerely Jerri Hupe.

Although, you will be missed more than you could ever realize you are now with Gary. Miss you both.

My brother, Gary, told me about a special person he wanted me to meet (he had a twinkle in his eye). Although I was very protective of my big brother, I enjoyed meeting Tena (she seemed to have that same twinkle in her eye when she looked at him).
