Terry Metcalf Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 12, 2023.
Terry L. Metcalf, 69, of Sycamore died on Sunday, October 30, 2022. He died peacefully surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 30, 1953 in Jacksonville, Illinois to Ray and Reita Metcalf.

Terry graduated from Sycamore High School in 1971. He was quite an athlete. His love for baseball and pitching was evident as it carried on after high school. He along with his son, brother, nephew, son-in-laws, and numerous friends played in Sycamore’s 16 inch softball league. It was a highlight in Terry’s life every Thursday night May thru August for over 50 years. The post game gathering was the best time with family and friends.

Terry worked at Ideal Industries in Sycamore for 38 years until his retirement in 2015. While working at Ideal, he met Brent Funkhouser who became his best friend and a true part of the family. Over the last several years he enjoyed being a driver for Bumper to Bumper in DeKalb.

Terry loved music. Whether his family and friends were gathered for a pool party or bonfire the music was playing from one of his many bluetooth speakers and there was usually a game of bags going on. Terry was a hard guy to beat in that game.

Terry’s three children were his pride and joy. Not only was he their dad but he was one of their best friends as well. Their fun gatherings will not be the same without him there. The grandkids will miss playing catch and spending time with their Papa.

Terry loved the outdoors. One of his favorite places was his brother’s cabin up north. He could spend hours sitting on the front porch or on the pontoon boat looking out at nature. He enjoyed sitting out on his own deck and patio, too. He found peace when he was outside.

There will forever be a missing piece in the hearts and lives of those who loved him, but it gives them comfort knowing he is now resting in eternal peace.

His children want to thank the many doctors and nurses that cared for their dad and his heart health throughout the many years. A special thanks goes out to Jerry and Samantha for their gracious help and support not only at the end but always.

Terry is survived by his children, Karyn (Jerry) Burch, Jill (Eric) Manheim, Chad (Elizabeth) Metcalf; six grandchildren, Austin, Nolan, Cali, Adalyn, Maverick, and Jaxton; the mother of his children, Susan Korth Metcalf; brothers, Larry (Josephine Romeo) Metcalf, Jerry (Samantha) Metcalf, and sister-in-law Becky Metcalf; nieces and nephews, Amanda (Randy) James, Kelly Metcalf, Haley Metcalf, Darrick (Lisa) Metcalf, Dawn (Russell) Bercier, and Robin Latimer. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Gary Metcalf.

A celebration of life for Terry will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2023 from 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm at the Sycamore Park Shelter (behind the golf club), 940 E. State St., Sycamore, IL.

Memorials can be made to the Metcalf family in care of Butala Funeral Home, 1405 Dekalb Ave., Sycamore, IL 60178. To sign the online guest book, go to www.butalafuneralhomes.com

Sorry to hear about TMet. I don't know if he ever told you, his family, about the time on the zero-turn mower here on the property but we laughed every time he was here and wanted to mow. He was a good, spirited man always had a smile. Sorry for your loss

I am sorry to hear of your Dads passing. His love for his family and friends was endless and was a beautiful thing. We enjoyed much music and those bean bag things at my Aunt Cathy’s house. The long evenings with them sitting in lounger listening to music and laughing made me feel that TMet was part of our family. Let’s not bring up the inflatable pool. Lol. You could see the love they had when they were together. I am so sorry for your loss, He will be missed.
