ROCKPORT — Tess P. Carpenter, 77, of Rockport, died on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008 at the Addison Gilbert Hospital.
Born in France on July 31, 1930, she was the daughter of Gabrielle Bielsa of Rockport and the late Floyd B. Huger.
Tess was a graduate of Keokuk High School in Iowa with the Class of 1947. She later had served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
Tess moved to Rockport in 1974 and had worked as a volunteer at the Rockport Grade School. She was a private homecare worker for many years and also worked at the Casual Shop in Rockport.
Tess was very active and enjoyed studying Early Child Development at the North School Community College.
She liked to knit, sew and enjoyed reading, playing scrabble and exercising. In her later years, Tess enjoyed the company of her friends at the Senior Center in Gloucester.
In addition to her mother Gabrielle, she is survived by her daughter, Ann Carpenter of Russell, Pa.; her sons, Thomas Carpenter of New York and William Carpenter of San Francisco; and her grandson, Sean Carpenter of Pennsylvania.
ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral service will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to the Rose Baker Senior Center, 6 Manuel F. Lewis St., Gloucester, MA 01966. Funeral arrangements are being conducted by the Burgess & Mackey Funeral Home, 201 Main St., Rockport.
