Theodore Matuskowitz II Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 2, 2025.
Theodore Stanley Andrew Matuskowitz II, 64, passed away on April 9, 2025, in his home in Wasilla, Alaska, surrounded by his loving wife and cherished pets. He was a devoted husband, son, brother, and friend whose life was defined by service, strength, and quiet generosity.

Born on September 22, 1960, in Allentown, Pennsylvania, Theo dedicated his life to serving his country. He spent a distinguished career in the United States Army, retiring at the rank of Master Sergeant (E-8).

Over the course of his service, Theo held elite and highly respected positions, including time as a Green Beret, Jumpmaster, Drill Sergeant, and Airborne-qualified leader. He was active in Operation Urgent Fury (Grenada), the Multinational Force and Observers in the Saini Peninsula, and was trained to fluency in the Thai language for operations in Southeast Asia.

One of his most honorable assignments was with the Old Guard at Arlington National Cemetery, where he served as the Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge (NCOIC)-a role that reflected his deep commitment to honor, tradition, and the fallen.

His final tour was with the 11th Airborne Division in Fort Richardson, AK.

He served with honor, earning numerous high-level commendations throughout his career. His decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, and the Meritorious Service Medal with oak leaf cluster.

His service in the Gulf War was recognized with the Southwest Asia Service Medal with two bronze service stars, as well as the Kuwait Liberation Medals from both Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. He also received the Republic of France Croix de Guerre (Cross of War) with Bronze Star for his exemplary bravery, heroism, and leadership.

After retiring from the Army, Theo continued his dedication to public service with a long and successful career as a policy writer for U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in Alaska.

He enjoyed the peace and beauty of Alaska, especially salmon and halibut fishing, gardening, and spending time with his beloved German Shepherd, Jake. He found joy in camping, hunting, and researching family ancestry, often immersing himself in the natural world and history he loved so deeply.

He is survived by his wife, Kimberly Matuskowitz; his mother, Alice Matuskowitz; and his sisters, Michelle Williams and Monique Matuskowitz; and Terry Faulkner, his former wife of 30 years.

A funeral with full military honors will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a future date.
