News Death Notice

RICHARDS, M.D., Theodore E. "Ted" 85, of Urbana died Friday, August 26, 2011 in Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton. He was born January 31, 1926 in Rocky River, OH, son of Edwin Eugene and Helen (Fisk) Richards. Ted graduated from Ohio University after having left High School early in order to become a Naval Medic during WWII, where he served in the Pacific. He then completed Ohio State University Medical School to achieve his lifelong dream of being a family doctor. In addition, he served the Urbana Community by being a member of BOX 13 Life Squad, assistant coroner and Health Commissioner. Ted helped to maintain Mercy Memorial Hospital as an inpatient facility. He was an Eagle Scout, Mason, fisherman, pilot, golfer and birdwatcher. He is survived by his loving wife, Bette J. (Frashure) Richards with whom he recently celebrated his 62nd anniversary. He is also survived by sons, Theodore E. (Becky Watson) Richards of Hamilton, OH, Joshua (Debbie Metz) Richards, M.D. of Urbana; daughters, Brooke Richards Dye of Sarasota, FL, Megan (Paula Fletcher) Richards of Cincinnati; 12 grandchildren; and (soon to be) seven great grandchildren and a sister Sally Richards Kelly of Virginia and his dog Chester. He was preceded in death by his parents. A celebration of his life will be celebrated at a later time. Memorial Contributions may be made in Ted's memory to the Beth Brown Scholarship Fund, P. O.
