Theodore (Ted) Honey Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 22, 2024.
Ted passed away peacefully at dawn on June 5th after a hard-fought battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carol, and children, Kevin (Meg) of Walnut Creek, Christina (James) of San Francisco, and Scott (Ellen) of Hong Kong. He cherished and was beloved by his six grandchildren, Carson and Porter Honey, Eliza and Alexis Allen, and Artemis and Athena Honey. Ted was a man of strength, kindness, and compassion. Calm in adversity and always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need, his unwavering spirit will forever be remembered.

While working at his father's Texaco station, Ted found he had a strong mechanical aptitude which led to his life-long enjoyment of tinkering with cars, including the ongoing restoration of his Austin Healey. Ted was adventurous and combined his love for cars and travel by taking family road trips driving through the US and Europe. He enjoyed being outside and exploring the Bay Area with hikes, drives up and down the coast and discovering good places to eat and fun things to do. As a way to rehabilitate after an injury, he began to practice martial arts with Sifu John Yee and after many years of study became a Tai Chi master. He was fortunate to have accomplished his dream of visiting China, including Shaolin temples, the Great Wall, and panda bears.

Retiring after 45 years of service with PG&E, Ted found a great deal of satisfaction working in public safety education representing PG&E at fairs, city, and private events.

Son of Ted and Elinor Honey, Ted graduated from Richmond High School and Golden Gate University. In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by sisters Jane Green and Judy Rosburg (Carroll), brother Tom Honey (Nancy), and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. His brother, Frank, passed away two days after Ted on June 7. He is also survived by brothers-in-law Rich Rose (Esther) and Darrell Bolognesi. He was preceded in death by his sister-in-law Marilyn Bolognesi and brother-in-law Bill Green.

There will be a Memorial Service at Sunset View Cemetery in El Cerrito on Friday, July 26, at 2:00 p.m. with a reception to follow.

Remembrances may be made to the Cancer Support Community of Walnut Creek and the West Contra Costa Retired Educators Scholarship Fund.

I have known Sifu Ted since I was in high school. There are many great memories with Sifu Ted. He always had a friendly smile, and was always so pleasant to be around. The last time I saw him was a couple years ago, and he still had that same friendly smile. I will always remember him for his kindness through the years.
