Theresa M. (nee Bernard) McCarthy, 98, of Washington Township, New Jersey, formerly of Gloucester City, went to be with our Lord on Wednesday, February 15, 2023. Theresa is survived by her children, Teresa McCarthy, Kenneth McCarthy, Margaret (Pat) Cerrone, and Neil (Sandy) McCarthy, 14 Grandchildren and 13 Great-Grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Daniel J. McCarthy, and sons, Daniel McCarthy, Jr and John McCarthy.
Born in Gloucester City, she was a graduate of Gloucester Catholic High School class of 1941. Theresa was a homemaker but later worked at JC Penney as well as the Gloucester City Library until her retirement. She was an active member of St. Mary’s Church. She loved traveling and spending time with her friends and family.
Viewing is scheduled for Friday, February 24th, 9:00-11:30 AM, at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 426 Monmouth Street, Gloucester City, N.J. A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 11:45 AM. Entombment will be at New Saint Mary's Cemetery Mausoleum, Bellmawr, New Jersey.

I just learned today of Mrs McCarthy’s passing

She was always such a great friendly lady when I grew up as a friend to her son John when we were in GCHS together RIP Mrs. McCarthy.

Theresa was like the strong oak tree in the middle of the yard spreading her branches to protect those around her from any harm that could come while welcoming warmth and love to all. The world has lost a wonderful woman. May she rest in peace from the other side knowing these things are very true.
