Theresa Adamoyurka York

Theresa Adamoyurka York, a lifelong resident of Covington Twp., passed away on Feb. 15, 2015, in Managua, Nicaragua. She was the widow of Paul J. York, who passed away on Jan. 2, 1999.

Theresa was born in Beaver Meadows, Pa., on Feb. 12, 1928, to Mary and Michael Adamoyurka. A 1945 graduate of Hazleton High School, she was also a 1948 graduate of St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing, Trenton N.J. After college, she joined the Army Air Corps. Discharged in 1954, she spent her life raising her children and being a homemaker.

She spent several years as a member of the North Pocono School Board. She was active with the Covington Volunteer Fire Company for over 50 years and volunteered at its annual picnic each year. She loved to play dominoes, pinochle and was active at the North Pocono Seniors Center.

She was an active member of St. Catherine of Siena Church.

Surviving are six children, Paula Markert and husband, William of Morris Plains, N.J.; Dr. Jeffrey York and wife, Debra of Harrisonburg, Va.; James York and wife, Molly of Brandon, Fla.; Pamela Aten and husband, Robert of Roaring Brook, Pa.; Laura Vajda and husband, Jayson of San Juan Del Sur, Nicaragua; Beth Ann Mitchell and husband, Jason of Riverside, Fla.; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her siblings, Anna, Susan, Helen, Mary, Veronica, Michael, John and Peter.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 15 at 2:00 p.m. at Brian Arthur Strauch Funeral Homes and Cremation Services LLC in Spring Brook Twp., to be conducted by Rev. Earl Trygar. Interment with military honors will follow at Fairview Memorial Park in Elmhurst Twp.
