Thomas Chown Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from May 26 to May 29, 2014.
Thomas Lambert Chown May 11, 1921 - May 20, 2014 Peacefully at the Ste Anne's Veterans' Hospital, encircled by family. Beloved husband of the late Beryl (2010) and treasured father of Ford (Linda), Judy (the late Rob Addie), Bruce, and Elizabeth (Rémi Lafrenière). Proud grandfather, lovingly called Grumpy by Allan (Stephanie), Jennifer (Rick Allen), Michael (Karin) and David (Kristy) Chown; Todd (Ai), Trevor and Tyler Addie; Jason Jennings and Jehane Lafrenière. Tommy also took delight in his great-grandchildren, Nathan, Ryan and Evan Allen, Lily, Landon, Katelyn, Evelyn, Owen, Lucas and Tristan Chown. Lovingly remembered by sister-in-law Patty Helland and family in Texas and many cherished Chown cousins. Tommy loved getting to know people and made lifelong friends around the world. Although blind and wheelchair bound, he kept his sense of humour and sharp mind to the end and enjoyed sharing stories and offering advice. Special thanks to Dr. Polson and the staff and volunteers at Ste Anne's Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Roof Fund at Cedar Park Church would be appreciated. All are welcome at a service of remembrance and thanksgiving on Saturday, May 31 at 10 AM at Cedar Park United Church, 204 Lakeview, Pointe-Claire, H9S 4C5.

Having recently celebrated the life of my own Dad I can only imagine how this coming Father's Day will be filled with tears of happy memories and tears of sadness. I have not yet sent notes of thanks to the Chown family regarding their kindness regarding my Dad and now you are remembering your Dad's life and legacy. I remember Mr. Chown and your family often as you form the peace and love and hope and joy that fill our lives from Lac des Iles and beyond. Peace of Christ. Cheers, [email protected]

Many good memories of times with Tommy and his family at Lac des Iles, the Puffin Club, and the Christmas Eve parties. The memories will last. Thinking of you at this time.

Sincere condolences from the Ostrom Family. I plan to attend the celebration on Saturday and look forward to reminiscing about the good old days growing up across the street from the Chown Family.

Tom was a good friend of my late parents, Jack and Stella Charters, going back to the 50's. I will never forget going to these great New Year's Eve Parties at the Chown's house on Lakeshore Drive with them. On behalf of my sister Jane and brother Stephen I offer sincerest condolences and sympathy to the Chown family.

Of all her cousins, I think my mother loved Tommy best. He was the indestructible, irascible "Mr. Grumpy." But under it all, a soft and caring soul. I will miss him. RIP.
