Dr. Thomas Michael DiResta

SWAMPSCOTT –Dr. Thomas M. DiResta, 79, of Swampscott. Entered into rest Tuesday evening, July 9, 2013 at the North Shore Medical Center/Salem Hospital in Salem. He was the beloved husband of the late Irene (Lefebvre) DiResta.

He was born and raised in Lawrence, Massachusetts, became a tailor by the age of 8. Was a successful singer as a teenager and performed many local venues. Thomas spoke seven languages fluently, met his bride Irene A. DiResta at the age of 18, shortly before joining the Navy, which he served during war time. After serving in the military, Thomas M. DiResta, attended UMASS Amherst and College Hospital in Des Moines, studying to become a physician. Married Irene A. DiResta in 1956, and enjoyed 61 lovely yrs. together.

Thomas had his medical practice in Lynn on Ocean Street for over 40 yrs. he performed many surgeries, delivered many children and was also on the staff of Saugus General Hospital, Union Hospital, Lynn Hospital and Mount Pleasant Hospital which he also specialized in substance abuse. He was the Industrial physician for North American Philips Lighting and Monsanto. He was the team physician for Saugus high school football team for many yrs. He played several instruments, but enjoyed playing the organ in his home most. He enjoyed with his daughters and grandchildren his homes in Naples, Fla. as well as his beach front property in Salisbury, MA. He was a member along with his beloved wife of the Ferncroft Country Club for many years. He resided for over 25 yrs. in Swampscott, MA. At the age of 78 converted into Judaism, where he had his Bar Mitzvah at Temple Emanuel, with Rabbi Meyer residing, and shortly after was accompanied by his grandson Thomas M. Reed to Israel.

Surviving him are his two devoted daughters, Elizabeth Slate of Swampscott and Pamela Anderson & her husband Bruce of Lynn; one loving sister, Lucy Girardi of Methuen; four cherished grandchildren, Thomas and Jessica Reed and David and Deanna Slate and one great grandson, Isaiah Thomas Barnhill, many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late James, Michael, Mary-Anne and Marco DiResta and Jennie Ficiara.

Services at Stanetky-Hymanson Memorial Chapel, 10 Vinnin Street, Salem on Monday, July 15, 2013 at 11:00 AM. Interment at Elmwood Cemetery, Methuen.
