Thomas Gaylord Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Apr. 16 to Apr. 21, 2023.
Thomas Mather Gaylord, beloved husband, father, son, brother, grandfather, mentor, coach and friend passed away on March 17, 2023 in Largo, Florida at the age of 84. He is lovingly remembered by his wife and best friend of 60 years, Frances (Mahoney), children Leslie Sullivan (John) and Christopher, grandchildren Timothy, Harrison and Theodore Gaylord, and Daisy and Maggie Sullivan, brother Jerry (Nancy), and several nieces and nephews. Tom was born on November 20, 1938 to Helen and Robert Gaylord in Pompton Plains, New Jersey. After graduating from Butler High School in 1955 and attending St. Lawrence University and the University of Virginia, he joined the army and was called to serve during the Berlin Crisis. Tom and Fran later moved to Arlington, Vermont where they raised their family on the banks of the Battenkill River. He worked at Stratton Mountain, spent twenty years with Mack Molding and finished his career with Factory Point Bank. Tom was an avid downhill skier, tennis and hockey player and loved to be outdoors. He was a Burr and Burton Academy superfan at his grandchildren's hockey and soccer games. Tom and Fran moved to Florida in 2018, trading the Vermont foliage and snow for year-round warmth and sun. Though Tom began his life in New Jersey and ended his life in Florida, Vermont was always home. Tom will be remembered as one of the kindest men one could know, dedicated to his wife and family. He will be truly missed.

Tommy better known by the Haefle family was a special friend of my brother Doug when we were kids. He spent many hours at our home and we all loved him dearly. As the younger sister of Doug, Tommy was my secret boyfriend. I was crazy about him. Of course he never knew this . The Haefles loved him.

Frances, Chris, and Les,
So sorry to learn of Tom's death. He was the first "cool dad" I ever met and I was so pleased when I ran into him in 2018. He still looked remarkably young. My daughter now lives at the top of Red Mountain and each time I drive up there, I am transported back to bumping along in a white Jeep, headed up to the house with good folks, hot chocolate, Tor, and Max.

Frances and family , so sorry for your loss. I have fond memories of Tom and Frances when they worked at Mack Molding. Especially the hurricane party at their house.
