HAVERHILL — Thomas M. Hoffman, 81, of Haverhill, died Thursday evening, March 27, 2008 at Hannah Duston Healthcare Center, Haverhill.
Mr. Hoffman was born in Lawrence on Dec. 11, 1926, son of the late Louis J. and Helen (Welch) Hoffman. He attended St. Rita's School, Lawrence, and Haverhill schools, and was a graduate of Haverhill Trade School, Haverhill, Class of 1945. He had been a resident of Haverhill most of his life.
He was a Veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 through 1946 and re-enlisted again with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War from 1950 through 1954.
Mr. Hoffman was Teamster, having worked for City Oil Co., Haverhill, Wing's Express, Haverhill, Hub Transportation, Haverhill, Graf Bros. Transportation, Newburyport, and the City of Haverhill for 10 years until his retirement in 1995.
Member of the Teamsters Union, Local No. 437, AFL-CIO; and the Wilbur M. Comeau American Legion Post No. 4, Haverhill.
His surviving family members include his loving wife of 57 years, Priscilla M. (Brown) Hoffman of Haverhill; daughter, Sallie J. Gauron and her husband Joseph M. of Haverhill; sons, Michael L. Hoffman of Haverhill, Jeffrey C. Hoffman and his wife Kathleen of Haverhill; brother, Louis J. Hoffman of Waukesha, WI; grandchildren, Lindsay M. Hoffman, Megan K. Hoffman, Nicole E. Gauron, Nicholas M. Hoffman; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Donald F. Hoffman.
