Thomas McGinnis Obituary
It is with profound sadness that the family of Tom McGinnis announces his sudden passing following a brief illness on August 24, 2020. Tom was born on February 21, 1995. He is a 2013 graduate of Eldorado High School. After graduation he joined the Marine Corps. He was devoted to serving his country and after serving his 5 years he joined the Marine Corps. Reserves. From a young age Tom showed great compassion for people and animals and was always quick to lend a hand or share a kind word. The world has lost a proud Marine, a loving son, and a good man. Tom is survived by his Mother Susan McDonald and Stepfather Michael McDonald; Aunt Kathy Davis and Uncle Robert Wengrod; Uncle Tom Davis and Aunt Dana Davis; Cousins, Erica, Jaki, Claire, Rachelle and Ryan. He is preceded in death by his father Thomas Jefferson McGinnis III and his maternal and paternal grandparents. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.

I was Thomas's JROTC instructor. I have since moved to a different state and only learned of his passing. Having trained so many cadets, Thomas stands out as one of the best we had. His quite presence was always a welcome respite from the usually noisy teenagers. I last spoke to him after he joined our beloved Marine Corps family. My heart is heavier today and my thoughts are with his family to have suffered such a loss from such an incredible soul.

McGinnis and I went to boot camp together as well as Marine Combat Training. We were not in the same company during boot camp nor Combat Training so it wasn’t until the last day of Combat Training that a very confused McGinnis and I finally said our first words to one another as we were completely clueless as to our assigned job: Meteorology.
McGinnis and I would go on to weather school where we were roommates throughout the entire year and 2 months we spent learning our job before being stationed with different units on Camp Pendleton.
McGinnis had a reputation for being quiet amongst a rambunctious group of young Marines but when he spoke it was typically one sentence that was full of wit and humor that typically left me laughing so hard I was crying.
My deepest condolences to the McGinnis family and his friends.

Tommy was a very kind and polite person/spirit. I never heard him curse or even raise his voice. He was a easy child and young man to get along with. He was quick to help out and his fellow Marines said he was the one friend they were certain that would show up to help them.
Our lives will never be whole or as fulfilling as they were. Our hope is in the future and when we get to Heaven He will be the first person we look up.
