Thomas Roland "Tom" Nethaway, age 74, of Chapin, Michigan passed away Tuesday, December 9, 2014 in Shiawassee County, Michigan. Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie, MI on Sunday, December 14, 2014 at 1:00 P.M., with Pastor Eric Stanton officiating. Burial will take place at Fairfield Township Cemetery, Fairfield Township, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 12, 2014 from 6-8 P.M., and on Saturday, December 13, 2014 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home. Thomas was born in Owosso, Michigan on May 20, 1940, the son of Grover and Joannetta (Thompson) Nethaway. Tom graduated from Ovid High School with the class of 1959. On June 1, 1968 Tom married Barbara Prikasky at the Chapin United Methodist Church. Tom worked for General Motors Truck & Bus as a tool & die maker in Flint Michigan for 48 years, retiring in 2009. He enjoyed farming, hunting, and his family was very important to him, especially his grandchildren. Tom enjoyed helping his neighbors and friends with any of their projects or needs. He took great pride in hard work and his family. Tom was the sexton of the Fairfield Township Cemetery for 53 years, a job he was passionate about. Tom resided all of his life in Ovid, Carland and Chapin, Michigan. He was a member of UAW 598. He is survived by his wife Barbara Nethaway of Chapin, MI, 3 daughters; Katherine and Richard Palatka of Howell, MI, Diane Shedden of Elsie, MI, Brenda and Josh Woods of Lansing, MI, 2 sons; Benton Nethaway of Lansing, MI, and Matthew and Renee Nethaway of Owosso, MI, 6 grandchildren; Luke, Evan, Seth, Joel, Natalie, and Thomas. He is also survived by 4 sisters; Dora Dumond, Anna Hartwick, Leila & Wes Nelson, Helen Nethaway-Mindiola, 1 brother Chris & Dixie Nethaway, sister in law, Fran Nethaway, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, 2 sisters; Dorothy, and Marie, and 2 brothers; Charles and Perry "Pat" Nethaway. Memorials may be made to a Charity of the Donor's Choice.
