Tony Torres Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 2, 2020.
Tony S. Torres Tony was born on January 14, 1931 in Tallulah, Louisiana to Emilio and Isabel Torres and was a long time resident of Rock Falls. He married his sweetheart Ofelia 'Chappy' Garza on October 21, 1961 in Edinburg,Texas. Ofelia preceded him in death on February 16, 2012. He was employed by Northwestern Steel and Wire for 34 years as a millwright retiring in 1990. Tony enlisted as an infantry man in the United States Army serving a three year tour stateside with pride and honor to his country during the Korean War era. Tony was extremely gifted in mechanical repairing and carpentry skills, a real "Jack of All Trades". He loved his mother, father, brothers and sisters dearly. He adored his wife, mother-in-law and 3 children immensely and cherished all of the adventures that a family road trip vacation could offer by pulling his 18 Ft. Airstream trailer from Mt. Rushmore, the Badlands of South Dakota, Disney World and Disneyland, New Orleans, Wisconsin Dells and trips all over the country. Many trips were as far south as Mexico visiting the beaches of Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, Acapulco, and ancient historical sites all by driving and pulling his trailer with his wife and kids enjoying what the world had to offer. Tony loved nothing more than to spend time with his grandson and granddaughters, as well his great grandchildren, but Tony's most important and cherished role will always be as a devoted caregiver to his wife who survived a massive stroke in 1998 and for over 13 years until her passing lovingly cared for her daily. His unwavering love for his wife and kids in good times and in bad was an inspiration to all that knew him. He was an unmovable wall in hard times and was a loyal and cheerful soul in good times that set an example for his family to aspire to be. He had an infectious sense of humor that was loved by all. He passed peacefully at home with his children and loving family by his side including his beloved dog Toby. He is survived by three children, Tony (Rachel) Torres Jr., Lucy (David) Milne and Jimmy Torres all of Rock Falls, four grandchildren Jennifer Milne- (Brian) Carroll of Madison, WI, Michael (Colleen) Milne of St. Paul, MN, April and Ashly Torres of Rock Falls and five great grandchildren, Julian, Luciana & Everly Carroll and Rhys & Elliot Milne. Siblings Josephine Engeldinger, Delores (Alex) Rios, Ray (Caroline) Torres, Robert (Pam) Torres, and sister-in-law, Trina Torres and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, James and Anselmo and three sisters, Felipa, Mary and Amada.
