Tyler Stanford Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 27, 2014.
Tyler James Stanford
November 23, 1991 - November 22, 2014

Tyler James Stanford died in a tragic auto accident November 22, 2014. He was a skilled athlete, avid Bronco fan and a loyal friend who always stood up for the underdog.
Born in Mesa, AZ, he relocated with his family as a young child and spent most of his life in Grand Junction, where he attended New Emerson, Holy Family Catholic School, and Grand Junction High School. Tyler attended both Colorado Mesa University and the College of Southern Idaho on a baseball scholarship.
While his younger siblings, Gabby, Elijah and Kiel, spent a lot of time watching Tyler play ball, he never missed an opportunity to spend time with them. Tyler would stop whatever he was doing to pick Gabby up at school, attend cub scouts with Eli, or to get down on the floor with Kiel and play.
He enjoyed baseball, football, basketball, fishing, and hiking. He had a special place in his heart for animals, especially dogs. If he went to an unfamiliar place, he said he could always relate to the dogs before he could the people. Tyler gave freely of himself and never expected anything in return.
He is preceded in death by Randy Bogart, Patrick Olerain and his dog, Buddy. He is survived by his mother and step-father, Mary Hammond and Blane Gossage; his father and step-mother, Jesse and Tami Stanford; his siblings, Gabby Stanford, Elijah and Kiel Gossage; grandparents, Paul and Marcia Sheffer, Deb Aspen, Larry and Arlene Nichols and Lois Bogart; uncles, Larry, Shane and Johnny; aunts, Tina, Jenny and Bear; ten cousins and numerous friends.
Services will be held Friday, November 28 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fruita, CO and immediately following the service a gathering for family and friends at the Hospitality Suite at Stocker Stadium.
Tyler, your bear hugs will be greatly missed!

Words can not express how much I miss you. What I would give to speak with you and hug you again... As all children are you were a beautiful gift from God. I feel blessed to have had shared my life with you, although I long for more time. I take comfort in your belief in a higher power. We talked of purposes and paths in life. Little did we know you had already achieved yours. Your devotion to your family and friends and especially your sister, brothers and cousins was exceptional. Your many athletic and academic achievements in your life did not seem of great importance to you. Rather you shared with me the joys in the relationships you developed. What I will remember is your beautiful heart, mind and soul. "The days may seem long, but the years are short." I miss you Son, Brother, Friend.

It was a privilege and honor to have known Tyler. He was such a likeable, goodhearted individual who cared deeply about the people in his life with his kind words, generous actions, and most of all, big bear hugs. As with others who were fortunate enough to have known him, I will also miss him very much.

You were one of the Tylers and I will never forget you. Your cute little face and ornery little laugh as a small boy. That same sparkle in your eye as you grew into the nicest young man was always there. You had the cutest wink, especially when you thought the Moms/teachers weren't looking. All your friends looked up to you and I know for sure you will be looking after them all now. Mary & Blane, thank you for sharing him with all of us. The memorial was beautiful and I will be praying for all you, everyday! Until we see you again Tyler S...

I will always remember the biggest smile, laugh and long arms. Tyler would often come have lunch at HFCS with his little brother Eli. He would sit at the lunch table in the midst of Eli and his primary classmates smiling and making jokes, (they all loved him). Tyler would always negotiate for their strawberry fruit cups, cookies and chocolate milks. Even the way Tyler walked suggested that he was happy and having a good time.
My condolences to his family. Tyler was a great person. I miss him and loved him very much.
