Ulla NIELSEN Obituary

Published by Victoria Times-Colonist from Nov. 23 to Nov. 24, 2012.
NIELSEN, Ulla It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mom, grandma & G.G. Mom passed away suddenly on November 9th. Born in Copenhagen, Denmark on September 8, 1928. Predeceased by her husband, Poul in 1984 she leaves behind her son, Rene (Angela), daughter Dale (Mike) as well as grandchildren, Tanis (John), Nicole (Mike) and Simon (Amy) and great-grandchildren Anya, Margaret and Colton. Together with her husband and their young son, mom emigrated to Canada from Denmark in 1951 initially landing in Halifax. Eventually they made their way west, finally settling in Victoria where they raised their young family. Mom was very proud of her and Poul's success in running the Member's Dining Room at the Parliament Buildings. They went on to enjoy more success when, in the early 70's, they became the owners/operators of the highly popular Cock Pheasant Restaurant in Saanich. During her retirement, mom treasured her time volunteering at the Sidney Museum where she escorted tours of school children and performed puppet shows to entertain them. Some of her time was spent playing bridge with a group at the senior's centre and joining a bowling league where she met many good friends. But above all, mom was proudest of her family and loved them all equally and unconditionally. Passionate about her home and life on Prospect Lake she was lucky enough to continue to live out her time in her home where she worked tirelessly in her garden. Mom was fiercely independent; always convinced she could do everything on her own. We shall surely miss her. Rest well Mom. A gathering of family & friends will be held on December 1st from 2:00 until 4:00 pm in the Garden Room of First Memorial, 4725 Falaise Drive, Saanich. For those wishing to, a donation in memory of mom to her favourite charity, The Mustard Seed, would be appreciated.
