Vernon Campbell Obituary

Vernon Campbell, 72, of Preston, Iowa, died Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, at the University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa City, due to complications after triple bypass heart surgery.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. today at Miller-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Preston. The Rev. Karl Goodfellow of the Preston United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Preston Cemetery. Visitation was Monday.
Vernon was born Sept. 27, 1931, in Brashear, Mo., to George and Pauline (Dunham) Campbell. He graduated from Alwood High School in Woodhull, Ill., with the class of 1949. He married Joann Simpson on March 1, 1953, in Woodhull. Vernon and his wife Joann owned and operated Campbell Trucking for 50 years until retirement in March 2001.
Vernon enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and their activities, watching sports and reading, especially western novels.
Those left to honor his memory are his wife, Joann; one son, Jerry (Dawn Kirk) Campbell, of Nashville, Tenn.; two daughters, Debbie (Mike) Kilburg and Joni (Joe) Kilburg, all of Preston; three grandchildren, Jerad, Keevyn and Abbey Kilburg; one sister, Shirley (Jim) Swank, of Owasso, Okla.; and one brother, Robert (Ruth) Pitts, of Preston.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, George Campbell and Pauline Pitts.
