Victor sat in front of me at the Winnipeg Talmud Torah. I missed him when his family moved to Regina in 1958 or 1959. When my family moved to Vancouver in August of 1959 we made a point of passing through Regina so I could see him again. Victor wasn't home but we were able to spend some time with his Mom who I also remembered from Winnipeg.

I remember asking Victor, shortly after I moved to Montreal 1968 to begin graduate school at McGill, why he (and his friends from McGill francais) wanted to make a revolution in a nice country like Canada. I could see it in the States, especially at that moment (the height of the Vietnam War), but over language? Not quite as big an issue, in my opinion, at the time.
"In that case," Victor said, "you should have a nice vacation up here, then go back to your own country and do what needs to be done."
Yup, those words changed my life, and, fortunately, I had another offer for grad school in California.
Olev ha sholom, Victor.

Victor was an outstanding professor at John Abbott, who taught me Communications: Self & Society (a humanities course in 1999 or 2000). A wonderful educator. No course I have ever taken has been that impactful on me, my life, or my life educational career. He was engaging, extremely intelligent, and his approach to teaching was the exact type that resonated with me. I got to call him and tell him this a couple of years prior to his passing. However I am heartbroken to see that he has passed. I was looking him up online to see if I could get his phone number to thank him. I am using the same book he used in his class, to teach my own communication course at the moment. He was a lovely person!

Rest in Peace, Victor. RIP

An intensely passionate student, devouring theory on revolutionary practice; a respected CEGEP teacher, inspiring students to open their horizons; a thoughtful therapist; and lover (and publicizer) of good food.

Good memories of Victor at John Abbott. A sensitive kind colleague, he brought valuable insights to his subject and to the Humanities department.
Condolences to his siblings.
