VIOLA DUNKAVICH Obituary

Published by middletownpress from Jan. 6 to Jan. 7, 2015.
DUNKAVICH, VIOLA (SHEMETH) Viola “Mom Vi” (Shemeth) Dunkavich, 94, of Middlefield, beloved wife for 50 years of the late Michael Dunkavich, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 4, 2015 after suffering complications from a broken hip. Born in Meriden on October 30, 1920, daughter of the late Mikhail Shemeth and the late Mariella (Sokolovich) Shemeth, Viola was a plant police woman and later front office receptionist for the New Departure Corporation in Meriden. She retired from the workforce at a relatively young age and delighted in traveling extensively across the United States with her husband “Mickey.” Until age-related issues prohibited her from attending, she was an active member of Victory Christian Church where she held the distinction of being the oldest member there with the youngest heart. She had the gift of being an incomparable encourager whose ability to bring out the best in others came from her faith in the Lord. Viola leaves one daughter, Lorna Scott, her son-in-law, Pastor Geoffrey Scott and a sister-in-law, Irma Shemeth, all of Middlefield and many nieces and nephews, and their children who she regarded like daughters, sons and grandchildren, and a large circle of dear friends. Along with her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Leon Shemeth, also from Middlefield. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 10 at 9:30 a.m. at Victory Christian Church, 191 Meriden Road, Middlefield. There will be no calling hours and burial will be at the convenience of the family. Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church Street, Middletown is handling the arrangements. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family at www.doolittlefuneralservice.com.
