Virginia Dunham Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 2, 2018.
Virginia (Jenny) Blevins Dunham of Fairfax, Virginia, passed away on Friday June 1, 2018, at the age of 84. Jenny was born August 3, 1933, in Manassas, Virginia, to Baxter and Nancy Blevins. She was one of 17 children.

Jenny was a graduate of Fairfax High School and Radford (College) University. She went into teaching and taught on and off for many years, which included teaching the hearing-impaired at Camelot Elementary, in Annandale, Virginia. Jenny also worked for the Fairfax City Police Department, before becoming employed by the US Postal Service, which she retired from after 28 years of service.

Jenny enjoyed many interests, which included bird watching, history, religion, travel, political and social issues, and charitable/humanitarian work (and never passed up a yard sale). She was an avid and enthusiastic Washington Redskins and Washington Senators/Nationals fan.

Jenny is survived by one sister, Charlotte Collins of North Carolina; her children, Alan (Kathy) Dunham of Elkton, Florida, Leigh Dunham (Virginia Wyatt) of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Stuart Dunham of Fairfax, Virginia. Also surviving are her three grandsons who affectionately called her Guppie (and the name stuck for everyone): Jason (Wendy) Dunham of Brambleton, Virginia, Joshua (Molly) Dunham of Ashburn, Virginia, and Ryan (Lindsey) Dunham of St. Augustine, Florida; and her six great-grandchildren: Aidan, Jordan, Asher, Harper, Bradley, and Finn. Jenny is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2018, at 11:00am, at Demaine Funeral Home, 10565 Main Street, Fairfax, Virginia, 22030. Burial to immediately follow at Fairfax City Cemetery. There will be a gathering for friends and family after the service at Jenny's home. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to a favorite charity in Jenny's name.
