W. O'Brien Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 18, 2010.
WEST YARMOUTH — W. Kenneth "Ken" O'Brien, 87, peacefully passed on from this life in the presence of his loving wife and children on Monday, Feb. 15, 2010.

Fondly known as "ol' blue eyes," he was handsome and charming until the end. He was true to the description given to him upon graduation from Brockton High School, that he was the "Best Looking, Best All Around" throughout his life.

He was a loving husband to his wife, partner and best friend, Katherine Crowley O'Brien, throughout their marriage of 67 years. He was a caring father to his five children: Richard O'Brien, Barbara Cambal and Susan Giardino, of West Yarmouth, Linda McCarthy of Boise, Idaho, and Beverly Healis of South Yarmouth, all of whom he loved so much. He was a grandfather of seven: Rick O'Brien, Geoffrey Cambal, Thomas Giardino, Shannon Cambal Hohmann, Carrie Giardino, Nikki Healis and Taylor Cambal; and a great-grandfather of nine.

Ken was a World War II veteran. He served his country honorably and with distinction as a captain in the Army stationed in Belgium and Italy in the European Theater.

A graduate of Brockton High, class of 1940, and a graduate of Boston University, he had a successful career in business for many years.

Ken had numerous interests, including sports, gardening, love of animals, music and dance, and spending time with all of his family. He was an avid golfer and member of Cummaquid Golf Club in Yarmouthport and Jacaranda Country Club in Venice, Fla. His golfing career was highlighted by scoring four holes-in-one. During his life, he enjoyed music and dancing with the love of his life, his wife "Kate." He had numerous friends and will be greatly missed by all who loved him so much during his lifetime.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Doane, Beal & Ames, 160 W. Main St., Hyannis. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, at St. Pius the X Church, Station Avenue, South Yarmouth. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Dear Kay, Dick, Barbara, Sue, Linda, Bev and Family, I can't express all the good times we shared growing up with all of you on Wimbledon. I also remember the Sunday am calls between my Dad and Ken sharing their experiences with their constitutions that am. Kenny bound up - Dad "no problem". So many funny stories.

He will always be remembered as a wonderful man, husband, Dad and friend and good looks!

I would be there on Saturday but have severe back problems and 10 minutes top in a car. Hopefully injections and therapy will work.

My Heart will be there, though, with all of you on your loss.

Love & Sympathy, Jane and Joe Benoit
