Wade Roger Ginkens of Gordon passed away May 27 peacefully at his home.

Memorial services will be held May 31 at 2 p.m. at the Gordon-Rushville High School with Reverend Kevin Burkhardt officiating.

Wade was born May 21, 1992 in Gordon to Weshe was 3, it was discovered that he was born with a genetic disease known as Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) which kept his muscles from growing as his body continued to grow and also affected his cardio and respiratory systems.

He attended Gordon Elementary, Gordon-Rushville Middle School and Gordon-Rushville High School, graduating in 2010. Highlights of his senior year were being named Gordon-Rushville Mustang #1 Fan and Prom King.

In elementary school, Wade was active in Cub Scouts, enjoying Pinewood Derbies and planting trees at Fort Robinson.

Wade became an avid sports fan over the years, football being his favorite, followed closely by basketball. He really enjoyed every kind of sport, from WWE to fishing. It didn't matter if it was pro, college or the G-R Mustangs, he was there supporting his team. He was fortunate enough to attend Super Bowl XLI at Miami, FL in 2007, thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Wade enjoyed watching movies, listening to music, hanging out with his family and friends, playing video games, tormenting his little sister and camping at Merritt Dam.

He attended one semester at Chadron State College, with the help of his para professional of many years, Lesa Saxton. They had created a special bond over many years of being together every school day.

Survivors include: his parents, Wes and Cheryl; sister, Sara; grandparents, Louise Ginkens, and Ken and Sharon Hardin; great-grandmother, Clarice Geersen; aunts and uncles, Cheryl and Doug Woodman, Ed and Laurel Ginkens; and Stuart and Shelly Hardin; eight cousins, special companion, Lesa Saxton and his dog, Bones.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Jim Ginkens and an uncle, Roger Ginkens.

Memorials have been established for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Gordon Volunteer Fire Department, Willow Tree Festival and the Gordon-Rushville Scholarship Foundation.

Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
