Walter Bishop Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 6, 2011.
Walter Leslie Bishop, Dec. 11, 1937-June 24, 2011, was born in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania to Betty and Fredric Bishop. He graduated from Bowling Green University in Ohio, where he was a member of Sigma Nu. Following graduating with his PhD, he became a professor of business in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Walter then went on to work at Holt, Rinehart and Winston; West Publishing and then Control Data. He moved to Park City in the mid-1970s where he owned and operated some local favorite restaurants including the Corner Store, Main Street Deli, La Papillion, and acted as property management for the Racquet Club. With Rick Anderson and Chuck Folkerth he purchased the Eating Establishment. After Walt retired in 2002, he and his wife Heide enjoyed traveling, fly-fishing and numerous other outdoor activities in the Park City area, and around the world.

Walt is survived by wife Heide Alsop Bishop, sister Alice Baker (Lara), son Bob Bishop (Suzanne), daughter Brenda Yates (Kip), daughter Katrina Rougelot (Roger), Lisa Alsop (Ryan), grandchildren Justin Yates, Miranda and Emily Rougelot, Kayla and Brandon Romano, Easton and Holden Miller, as well as many dear and close friends. The family would like to extend special thanks to Georgene Heare from Applegate Hospice for the love, care and support she provided.

Walter made prior arrangements to have his body donated to the University of Utah Medical Center, as it was his wish that he could provide research opportunities for medical advancements. He was a strong proponent of this and hoped that others may follow his example.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in the name of Walter Bishop to Applegate Homecare and Hospice, 750 Round Valley Drive, Suite 204, Park City, Utah 84060 or the Alzheimer's Association - Utah chapter, 855 East 4800 South, Suite 100, SLC, Utah 84107.

A celebration of Walter's life will be held Monday, July 11 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Eating Establishment in Park City, Utah. All who were friends of Walt are invited to attend.
