Walter Alan Klees (1935 - 2021)

Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather

Walter Alan Klees passed away peacefully on January 27, 2021 at the age of 85 in Bakersfield, California. Born on August 2, 1935 in Hackensack, New Jersey, Walter lived a full life dedicated to family, service, and a passion for aviation.

Walter grew up in Hillsdale, NJ with his parents, Walter Amos Klees and Elizabeth Zimmerman Klees, who preceded him in death. He proudly served his country in the US Army for two years after graduating high school. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Walter's career path took him to California in 1972 when his job relocated him. Throughout his professional life he thrived in the fast-paced world of Silicon Valley start-up tech companies, excelling in various sales and marketing positions.

Beyond his career success, Walter found joy in spending time with his loved ones. He was married to his wife Doris Grace Klees (nee Bromm) for an incredible 63 1/2 years. Together, they raised three children: Barbara Anne Smith (formerly Reese), Douglas Alan Klees, and Donna Lynn Klees (formerly Clough). His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Hali, Mandi, Wendi, & Bradley Reese, Jack and Megan Klees, Daniel, Brian (Megan), Scott, and Sarah Clough, and great-grandchild: Bodhi Weimer.

In his retirement, Walter embraced his love for aviation. He earned his private pilot's license at the age of 50 and went on to build his own experimental RV-6A Vans airplane. This self-built aircraft reflected his dedication to engineering and his thirst for adventure. Following his wishes, his ashes were scattered over the majestic Sierra Nevada mountains, a final flight mirroring the freedom he cherished.
