SGT Warren C. Burrell was born July 25, 1923 to Mr. George and Mariah Burrell, Sr. in Shepherd, TX.. He died November 3, 2014 in Winnfield, LA. He was the ninth and last child.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Pernessa Burrell, father George Burrell, Sr. and his mother Mariah Burrell. Five sisters; Beatrice Burrell-Duke, Viola Burrell-Jeffery, Rebecca Burrell-Cochran, Lillian Burrell-Bedford, and three brothers; Quinto Burrell, George Burrell Jr., James C. Burrell.

He finished high school and joined the Civilian Conservation Corps Camp (CCC Camp). He was in the camp for eighteen months. He left the camp and enlisted in the U.S. Army and remained in the services for 30 years. While stationed at Fort Polk Army Base, he met and married the love of his life, Mrs. Pernessa Dunkley; they were blessed with one son, Rev. W. James Dunkley. He was a devoted and faithful husband for over 56 years. He affectionally called her "Slim."

SGT Burrell retired from the Army as Sergeant; after retirement he worked at Fort Polk for 8 years.

He accepted Christ and joined New Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Flood J. Jackson and continued to serve faithfully under the leadership of Rev. Tommie Hamms and Rev. Tomell Hamms. He served as Usher Board President, Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, and Church Secretary and he was a faithful and loyal member of King Solomon Lodge # 81. He also organized the Winnfield Cemetery Committee.

He leaves to cherish his legacy one son Rev. W. James Dunkley (Mildred), 6 grandchildren: Kimberly Ford (Bennett), Nicole L. Rotich, Eric J. Dunkley (Yani), James L. Dunkley, Rena Hewitt (Earlie), Sch Nay Atkins, 6 great-grandchildren, 1 niece Debra Whitehead and 3 nephews.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, November 10, 2014 at 12:00 Noon at New Zion Baptist Church, Winnfield, LA. Visitation also Monday, November 10, 2014 from 10:00 A.M. until time of Service at New Zion Baptist Church, 430 W. Jones Street, Winnfield, LA. Officiating will be Pastor Tomell Hamms.
