Warren Shook Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 18, 2024.
The family of Warren Edward Shook of Oklahoma City is saddened to announce his passing on November 08, 2024 at the age of 68. Warren passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus with his children and other family members at his side. He was born December 06, 1955, in Honolulu, Hawaii to his parents Wendell and Dianne Shook. Warren was the first born of their four children.

Warren graduated from Moore High School in 1974 and went on to lead a gratifying career in the insurance industry, being recognized for earning his professional designation as a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) for his high level of knowledge and expertise in the insurance field for a major insurance company. Given Warren's desire to be his own boss, he stepped away from the insurance industry in the 1990's and transitioned to be a highly skilled and successful ceramic tile craftsman until his retirement.

Warren was a gifted guitar player with extraordinary skills. He could play music by ear, a God-given talent he also shared with his father. Warren mastered the music of his younger days playing hard rock like Jimi Hendrix, Ted Nugent, and Jimmy Page. Later, he felt more drawn to country music influenced by his dad, and music by Alan Jackson, George Strait and others. He especially enjoyed learning and playing blues and flemenco music. He played guitar for local bands including Kammerzell, and later went on to start his own band, Rough Cut, performing in clubs, festivals and events. After retiring from playing professionally he taught guitar lessons to new students. He also wrote and recorded music for enjoyment, leaving behind many treasures of his writings and songs.

Alongside music, cooking and reading, Warren enjoyed feeding and watching the native birds in his back yard. Warren had an amazing reading retention ability. He read the Holy Bible from Genesis to Revelation five times, studying endlessly, and could recite many scriptures from memory. Warren confessed that Jesus was Lord and trusted in his heart that Jesus was his Savior. As an avid cook he mastered such recipes like the KFC original fried chicken and several different smoked BBQ recipes and really enjoyed making fresh bread weekly. He, like his mother, modeled great cooking from seeing culinary shows he enjoyed watching. He loved fishing trips at Lake Texoma in his younger years, often camping with family, especially his father, uncles, and cousins. Mostly though, Warren adored spending time with his grandkids. He liked cooking for them, having sleepovers and time with them exploring their interests like the OKC Train Show, reading, board games and cards, basketball and swimming. He was a life-long devoted OU football fan, Major League baseball fan of the Cardinals and the NBA Thunder. Warren was fun-loving and much loved as a father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and cousin. He will be truly missed. Warren's family cherishes the countless wonderful memories they will carry with them in their hearts.

He is survived by his father, Wendell Shook; two children, son Jason Shook and wife Erika and daughter Stacy Mireles. His joy was multiplied as a grandfather to Isaiah and Alina Mireles, Mela Crawford, Bret Shook and his fiancé Bethany, and Jason Shook and his wife Christine, and step-granddaughter Miranda Shifflett and her husband Kelby. Warren also leaves behind three young great-grandchildren. He is survived by his siblings Aimee Crossland and husband John Wiginton, Jonathan Shook and wife Mary, and Lisa Windle. He has eight nieces nephews and their husbands and wives, and numerous great nieces and nephews and many cousins. Warren was preceded in death by his mother, Dianne Shook in June 2024.

A Memorial Service to honor and celebrate Warren's life will be held at the home of his sister and brother-in-law, Aimee Crossland and John Wiginton on November 23 in Oklahoma City from 12:00 pm -2:00 pm.
