Dr Wayne D. Atchley

Funeral services for Dr. Wayne D. Atchley, 73, of Amarillo, Texas, will be at 2 p.m. today, March 31, 2009, at Paramount Baptist Church with Dr. Gil Lain and Billy Rammage, pastor of First Baptist Church of Clayton officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are by Cox-La-Grone Funeral Home, Amarillo, Texas. Dr. Atchley was born April 16, 1935, and died Saturday, March 28, 2009.He was raised in Union County, N.M., and graduated from high school in Wichita, Kan. He graduated from Friends University in Wichita, Kan., as well as Palmer Chiropractic College in Davenport, Iowa. He married Martha Connolly June 20, 1970, in Clayton, N.M. He worked as a chiropractor in Clayton, N.M., before moving to Enid, Okla. He practiced in Enid for 25 years before retiring and moving to Amarillo in 1997. Dr. Atchley loved his Lord and was a member of Paramount Baptist Church, as well as the Gideons.He loved woodworking, genealogy, spending time on his ranch and farm in New Mexico and being around people. He was an active volunteer with Habitat for Humanity and was always looking for a way to help others. He also loved the outdoors, hunting, hiking and rock hunting with his wife. He was preceded in death by his parents, Forrest and Ruby Atchley.Surviving are his wife, Martha Atchley, of Amarillo; four sisters, Violet Brockman and her husband Bill of Clayton, N.M., De Ann Richardson of Sedan, N.M., Elaine Aschbacher and her husband Leon of Edgewood, N.M. and R. Forrestine Atchley of Odessa, Texas; one sister-in-law, Mary Connolly-Smith and her husband Dr. Randy Smith of Waxahachie. Dr. Atchley also is survived by 13 nieces and nephews and their families who loved him very much.
